How to Use Apothecary Jars

Apothecary Jars (AJ) can be used for different purposes, including skin care, dried herbs, powder and perfume.

For oil based perfumes apothecary jars are used for decorative purposes. You can also fill the jar with raw resins, rough crystals, lava rock, terracota pieces, or simple a piece of fabric to hold the scent in and use it to diffuse your perfume oil. You can use the jar for inhalation if, for some reason, you cannot or do not wish to apply perfume on skin, in particular for its aromatherapeutic properties. The stopper will keep the scent trapped for further use.

AJ are airtight and will keep your perfume safe from air, humidity and light which is important to prolong the shelf life of a natural fragrance. But it is important to know to properly use it.

Each 50ml AJ has a stopper and comes with a glass pipette which can be used to apply perfume.

To open and close AJ lightly twist the stopper in any direction and lift/press it carefully.

We recommend to keep AJ in an upright position to avoid accidents, for this same purpose we ship our AJ with an extra 50ml bottle with a pourer cap: the blend comes in a 50 bottle from which you will transfer the amount you need in your AJ. Do not pour all the precious blend, this will keep it safe in case you break one of the bottles (accidents happen). We recommend to fill AJ only maximum to 30-50% of their volume.

Although AJ are airtight (only in an upright position), shipping conditions vary. If you do want to transport your perfume in a jar, attach a rubber band to keep the stopper in place and keep the jar in a vertical position (this will work for both alcohol and oil based perfumes).

You can use AJ on their own as a decorative perfume bottle (use the glass pipette provided with it to apply perfume) which is their main purpose or keep them as a refill vessel for dropper bottles (use the pipette which comes with dropper bottles to transfer the blend or you can also use any clean longer pipette you may have at hand).

AJ are reusable. When the perfume is over, leave the jar open, this will help the remaining blend to evaporate (think of a room scent), rinse the jar with hot water with a drop of liquid dish soap, wash well, let it dry and reuse for dried herbs, tea blends, clay masks or any dry or liquid home preparations.

Please do NOT tilt or turn over AJ’s, as this may reduce their airtight quality. The perfume oil should not reach the neck or touch the stopper, if it does, simply wipe them with a clean paper towel.
